What does a grief journey really look like? ❤️
In this heartfelt Grief Café moment, Sheila Harris opens up about her personal journey of grieving her father, “Bruce” Harris — a journey that has spanned decades, shifted through seasons, and continues to shape her life today.
Sheila shares honestly that she still doesn’t know — even now — how to rate her grief on a scale of 1–10.
Because the truth is this:
There is no perfect way to grieve.
We are all experts in our own grief.
When Grief Has No Timeline
Sheila reflects on the first ten years after losing her father:
- the heaviness
- the shifting stages
- grief that moved from heavy → medium → heavy again
- moments of pain triggered by seeing other daughters with their fathers
- remembering tender moments and longing for his covering
- loving him then… and still loving him now
Although she was only 13 when her father passed — and is now in her 50s — the ache of missing him never fully disappears.
Because grief does not follow a timeline.
It doesn’t expire.
It ebbs. It flows. It breathes. It changes.
Holding Pain and Meaning Together
In this conversation, we explore:
- how grief evolves over time
- the parts that still hurt, no matter how long it’s been
- finding meaning without minimizing the pain
- honoring our loved one’s legacy
- asking the question: “What would they want for me now?”
- searching for joy again
- allowing grief and meaning to coexist
At the core of this journey, one truth remains:
Grief is love — and love never leaves.
Why the Grief Café Exists
This is why we created the Grief Café —
to remember with love,
to honor legacy,
and to hold pain and joy together as we heal.
It’s a space where grief can be honest, where memories are welcomed, and where love is never rushed or silenced.
Grief and the Holiday Season
As the holidays approach, grief can feel even heavier.
Traditions change.
Absence feels louder.
Memories rise unexpectedly.
If you are grieving — or walking alongside someone who is — we pray this conversation offers comfort, understanding, and reassurance that you are not alone.
